When Innovation Kills Good Jobs

In case you have not noticed, there is a short term crisis that has necessitated the closing of many schools, a re-orientation toward distance learning, and a growth of innovation surrounding this changed condition.

Distance learning has been an ongoing thing for some time already and the use of technology in education is no spring chicken. [Some of the big college MBA programs are delivered exclusively through distance learning with limited to no degradation of the experience.]

One distance learning company has an outstanding call for 5,000 teachers to provide classes through its platform.

Subscription Coffee — Panera Bread Strikes First

I am not a Panera Bread regular though I have spent a few hours there working, eating, and guzzling coffee. Not a lot, just a few.

Recently, Panera announced a subscription coffee service: Panera + Coffee.

For $8.99/month you can get unlimited coffee and tea (actually one hot drip coffee, hot tea, or iced coffee every TWO HOURS).

A 16 oz coffee is $2.39 on a regular menu basis.

Old Economy to New Economy Transformation Revisited

Big Red Car here.  Hey, it’s raining in the ATX and I don’t like that.  It’s a bit cold in addition.  The Boss had a day of power washing laid on but it looks a bit spotty.  I like The Boss to get his power washing on — it makes the simpleton so damn happy.  [Haha, watch it Big Red Car.]

So The Boss has always been a huge fan of the transformation of old economy companies to new economy companies.  A great way to create value by essentially jerking the old economy company into the real, current world.

Cool New Website — PEGGSITE.COM

Big Red Car here.  Hey, rain in the ATX and a huge lightning delay in the Longhorns v Texas Christian University.  Longhorns v Christians?  Final score after the long lightning delay: 30-7.

Horns prevail over Horned Frogs, well, Christian horned frogs, no?

So The Boss is talking up a cool new website called peggsite.com.  Go check it out.

Taking Advice

Big Red Car here.  Going to be a great day.  Me and The Boss have already been for a good swim.  I let The Boss swim while I keep an eye on things.

This morning, clear and when The Boss looked out his office window, there was the UT Tower shining bright in the before dawn light.

It doesn’t get better than this — On Earth as it is in Texas, ya’ll!

Employment and hiring process

Big Red Car here.  Nice sunny warm day here in the ATX.  It is summer, Old Sport, and it is going to be a warm one.

So The Boss was visiting with one of his CEOs and they got to chatting about the hiring process from a mechanical perspective.  The Boss loves nothing as well as a well defined and streamlined process and a process graphic.

At the end of the day, the hiring process is really a search or discovery function — finding the right person for the right job.  It is most surely a process.
