The United States And Nicaragua Immigration Partnership

The sovereign nations of Nicaragua and the United States have entered into a new immigration partnership. It works like this:

 1. Nicaragua flies its prisoners involuntarily to the United States where they are illegal immigrants and dumped into US possession. Last week, they sent 222 felons.

Finishing School

I once was asked to provide a reference on someone I knew and said it was my considered view, “He escaped charm school a semester early.”

The recipient of that bit of obscurity laughed and nodded his head knowingly. It was an effective communication.

He passed on the man and a couple of years later told me the guy had turned out to be a disaster, but somebody else’s disaster.

That comment makes me think about another kind of school — Finishing School.

I have some equally pithy and direct advice.

Venture Capital’s New Best Friend — Securities And Exchange Commission

Today the Securities and Exchange Commission proposed a marriage of their oversight and a squirming, virginal reluctant bride — the Venture Capital industry.

I wake up early every morning and check the news, particularly the war news out of Ukraine.

I catch myself wondering if this is really the 21st century when I see a nuclear nation, Russia, invading and slaughtering a neighbor on some tired bullshit mumbled by a mad man about Nazis.

Is this actually the bloody 21st century?

Oddities in the Southern Muse

I tell him I went to Virginia Military Institute, a place founded on 11 November 1839 in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia — an idyllic slice of Southern charm — at the height of the Vietnam War.

VMI men ran World War II in the person of General of the Armies George Catlett Marshall, the man Churchill gave the most credit for winning World War II calling him the Architect of Victory.

Stonewall Jackson taught there and Rob’t E Lee is buried on the edge of the campus in Lee Chapel. In the Wave of Wokeness that has swamped the land, Stonewall has gone MIA.

VMI men and, now, women, have fought with distinction in every American war since 1839. We are a handy bunch to have around when the feathers hit the fan.
