Managing the C Suite

Big Red Car here. Rained like Hell last night in the ATX. It is that time of year — we get the rains in May and September and this is September. Bring it!

So today, we talk about the C Suite and how it operates or should operate.

First, let’s make sure we’re all talking about the same thing — C Suite occupants: Chief Executive Officer, Chief Operating Officer, Chief Technical Officer, Chief Marketing Officer and so on.

You don’t have to have all these folks but you might. They are the leadership of the company. Continue reading

“I Am a First Time CEO”

Big Red Car here enjoying the lovely, sunny, warm ATX yet once again.

So, I’m talking to four different founder/CEOs and one of the says, “I’m a first time CEO.”

CEO Leadership — Taking Power

Big Red Car here in the fabulous ATX. On Earth as it is in Texas, y’all!

So The Boss is talking to one of his brilliant CEOs and they get on the issue of what powers a CEO has and where they are derived from.

So The Boss was talking to me about the CEO coaching business. He gets a lot of calls and he has had some clients for almost three years now.

Not long ago, he fired a client. What? Firing a client? Continue reading

CEOs Delivering Criticism — Constructively

Big Red Car here. Bit muggy here in the ATX. Wild night last night with police killing two individuals and one victim apparently murdered by one of the individuals killed by the police. Say a prayer for Austin. Situation still a little murky.

So the Big Red Car is listening — eavesdropping — on one of The Boss’s bright young CEOs delivering a bit of a tongue lashing to one of his team.

And how did that go, Big Red Car?

Not well, y’all. Not well. Continue reading
