Texas — Made In America

Big Red Car here. Hope all is well with you, dear reader. OK, we are talking Made in America today, y’all, and why not?

One of the promises that Candidate Trump made was he wanted to protect the jobs of Americans and toward that end, he suggested that public projects should use goods made in America.

In particular, he mentioned the Keystone XL Pipeline and its use of foreign steel pipe.

To jog your memory, the Keystone XL Pipeline project was disapproved by the Obama administration in 2015 after seven years of hand wringing.

It was approved and the permit issued in late March, less than two months after President Trump took office. Promise made; promise kept.

Texas Bluebonnet Season

OK, y’all, I’m giving you fair warning. We’re getting close to Bluebonnet Season in the Texas Hill Country west of Austin By God Texas.

Last year and in 2015, I got a lot of push back for not warning folks of the impending bluebonnet blooming.

So, here it is, dear readers. Get ready to take a trip to the Willow City Loop.

The MOOC Comes of Age in Texas — Freshman Year for Free!

Big Red Car here. So, you don’t know what a MOOC is, do you?

A MOOC is a Massive Open Online Course and it is the promise of the Internet writ large.

In this instance, Texas State University in San Marcos — just a few miles south of Austin — has made it possible to use MOOCs to place out of a student’s entire freshman year. In effect, free tuition for your freshman year.

Hey, Big Red Car, that sounds like a revolutionary idea. Is it?

In Praise of Skepticism

Texas Bluebonnet Tour — the Willow City Loop

Big Red Car here. What a day it is going to be in the ATX. Also, don’t forget the Final Four Championship game tonight. Like you might forget, right? Go Badgers!

So, if you live in central Texas, you take your annual bluebonnet tour at the end of April to the beginning of March. If you live in Austin, you can take the Willow City Loop tour. [This is a huge secret. Do not tell anyone who has just moved to Austin from say California or Milwaukee. They have to discover it themselves.]
