Finishing School

I once was asked to provide a reference on someone I knew and said it was my considered view, “He escaped charm school a semester early.”

The recipient of that bit of obscurity laughed and nodded his head knowingly. It was an effective communication.

He passed on the man and a couple of years later told me the guy had turned out to be a disaster, but somebody else’s disaster.

That comment makes me think about another kind of school — Finishing School.

I have some equally pithy and direct advice.

Venture Capital’s New Best Friend — Securities And Exchange Commission

Today the Securities and Exchange Commission proposed a marriage of their oversight and a squirming, virginal reluctant bride — the Venture Capital industry.

Clearly, this is a shotgun marriage and there will be no honeymoon. The VC industry will protest it is rape, but you decide.

“Shots fired!”

As Ronald Reagan said, “The top nine most terrifying words in the English Language are: I’m from the government, and I’m here to help.

This Is Really The 21st Century, Right?

I wake up early every morning and check the news, particularly the war news out of Ukraine.

I catch myself wondering if this is really the 21st century when I see a nuclear nation, Russia, invading and slaughtering a neighbor on some tired bullshit mumbled by a mad man about Nazis.

Is this actually the bloody 21st century?
