Work From Home — Once They’ve Seen Paris

All desk bound or mind workers in the USA were “invited” to work from home — WFH — during the pendency of COVID19.

When American soldiers returned from World War I after having “seen Paris” the saying went: “How you going to keep them down on the farm once they’ve seen Paris?” It became a famous vaudeville song during the Roaring Twenties.

In fact, America became much more global and international. American changed irreversibly from the experiences of World War I Doughboys.

Work from home, Big Red Car?

In a similar manner, those who have been condemned to WFH are now saying, “Wow, I liked that. Can I work from home forever?”

Newsweek published a poll (25,000 person sample size) that indicated the following:

54% of respondents would like to work from home as their PRIMARY method of engagement

75% of respondents would like to work from home AT THEIR OPTION, occasionally

Gallup conducted a similar poll and found that 52% of managers said they would “allow” employees to work from home more often after their COVID19 experience.

How will American business change, Big Red Car?

There are a few different possibilities.

Having lived through the experience, more employees will want to work from home. This condition of employment will have an impact on hiring decisions from the employee’s perspective.

Having lived through the experience, more employers will allow workers to work from home. This will be driven, in part, by a perceived lower level of cost to host an employee from home.

Based on the experience many employers will ask: “Do we really need this many people?”

So, dear readers, there you have it. How we gonna keep them coming to the office when they been working from home?

But, hey, what the Hell do I really know anyway? I’m just a Big Red Car. I always work from the driveway.car
