The Big Red Car Visits the Littlefield Fountain

The Big Red Car goes to the University of Texas Littlefield Fountain

Big Red Car here visiting one of my favorite places.

Click on the thumbnail and look at me visiting the Littlefield Fountain at THE University of Texas.  In the background you will see the famous or infamous University of Texas Tower.  You may remember that Charles Whitman, an ex-Marine and UT student, shot and killed 13 people and wounded an additional 32 victims while shooting from the Tower.

My memories of the Littlefield Fountain are a bit sweeter as I remember the students filling it with foam by dropping bars of soap into it at graduation.  Graduation for some schools is held on the area around the base of the tower in the distance.  It is a grand occasion with all of the families adoring their graduating students.  And celebrating the end of those tuition payments.

George W Littlefield was a great man who had fought and been severely wounded in the Civil War (War of Northern Aggression anyone?).  He then went on to a career as a cattleman, banker, real estate developer and philanthropist.

My Boss used to own the Littlefield Building in downtown Austin.  Built and owned by George W Littlefield.  It is located at the corner of Sixth and Congress — Hollywood and Vine in Austin, Texas.  He renovated it and it is still a gorgeous building.  I will fetch a picture of it when I can get some Internet time.

Good and bad things at the same location.  Well, I get around a bit.

Now enjoy the Eyes of Texas as played by the Longhorn Band.  Do you know the words?

The eyes of Texas are upon you
All the live long days
The eyes of Texas are upon you
And you cannot get away

Do not think you can escape them
From night till early in the morn
The eyes of Texas are upon you
Till Gabriel blows his horn

Be good to yourselves.  You deserve it.

The Eyes of Texas

  1. Liking the sound effect that kicks-in the minute you load the page. How do you do that? Is it via a plugin and where do you select the music?

Hey, I never thought I would be asking you for technical advice 🙂

It seems like a Zemanta for sound, or perhaps something that SoundCloud might have, where you can select a sound & insert is from your library @fredwilson ?
