Volodmyr Zelenskyy — Patriot Or Dictator?

Recently President Trump unloaded on the President of Ukraine, Volodmyr Zelenskyy, calling him an unpopular dictator, in particular for not conducting elections. These claims are patently false and irresponsible.

President of Ukraine Volodmyr Zelenskyy has been an effective military commander and inspirational leader for his country.

What about the martial law and elections thing, Big Red Car?

Here are the facts, dear reader:

 1. Ukraine declared martial law on the date of the unprovoked Russian invasion, 24 February 2022. This declaration was ratified by the Ukrainian unicameral legislature, the Verkhovna Rada, the next day.

The declaration of martial law was necessary to empower the president of Ukraine with the tools to conduct the war.

 2. Under the Ukrainian constitution elections are forbidden until the end of the period of martial law.

 3. This is not an unusual provision. England declared a state of emergency in 1935 and did not hold another election until 1945 after the Germans surrendered marking the end of war in Europe. Nobody accused Winston Churchill of being an “unpopular dictator” because England did not conduct elections.

How about the 4% popularity claim, Big Red Car?

Pure bullshit, dear reader. So pure as to be overwhelming in the sheer magnitude of the claim.

Here is some info on Zelenskyy’s popularity:

Zelenskyy is wildly popular.

Who is this Zelenskyy chap, Big Red Car?

Volodmyr Zelenskyy was born in the Soviet Union — Ukraine was part of the USSR — and lived under its power until 25 December 1991 when the USSR dissolved and Ukraine became a sovereign nation.

His parents were an engineer (Mom) and computer scientist (Dad) and he graduated from law school. With his law degree in hand, he began an entrepreneurial career in the entertainment field.

One of his entertainment ventures was a series about a teacher who suddenly became president. Somehow, that resonated with Zelenskyy and he threw his hat in the ring in a distant chance, long odds run for president of Ukraine on a platform of:

1. ending corruption,

 2. settling things with Russia in Crimea/Donbas (they had seized Crimea and begun a Little Green Man revolt in Donbas in 2014), and

 3. turning westward to join the European Union and Nato.

In a wild elcction that demonstrated Zelenskyy’s entertainment savvy and social media expertise, Zelenskyy won with 73% of the vote in a landslide victory in 2019. Yes, that’s correct, Zelenskyy ran the table and garnered 73% support.

Is he a patriot, Big Red Car?

Imagine yourself as the president of Ukraine early on the morning of 24 February 2022 receiving a call, “Mr. President, the Russians have crossed the Belarus border enmasse and are attacking toward Kyiv in an armored column.”

What happened after that?

 1. Zelenskyy rose to the occasion. Offered a plane ride to safety by the Biden regime, he said, “I don’t need a plane ride; I need ammunition.”

 2. Zelenskyy breathed life into the resistance against Russia and a steel backbone into his military forces that immediately began to discharge their duties and halt the Russian attack.

Remember how desperate that first month was as the Russians tried to seize an important airport in a bold coup de main that the Ukrainians rebuffed whilst destroying two Russian airborne regiments?

 3. The American CIA and the US Army gave the Ukrainians a week at the best and Putin’s thugs believed they would be in Kyiv in a week to hang Zelenskyy, but Zelenskyy’s army is still in the field fighting 3 years later.

 4. Under his leadership as commander-in-chief, Zelenskyy has overseen the most modern battlefield in history and seen the implementation of modern weapons and new weapons — HIMARS, ATACMS, shoulder fired anti-tank missiles like the Javelin and drones — in the deadly combination of technology, intelligence, and World War I trench warfare.

 5. Russian Spetsnaz forces have attempted dozens of assassination attempts and Zelenskyy has foiled them all and escaped.

 6. There is a fierce nobility to his steadfast resistance against what was thought to be the most powerful army in Europe, but one he and his forces resisted effectively and exposed.

So, Big Red Car, you’re calling out President Trump?

You bet your ass I am.

 1. Volodmyr Zelenskyy is a historic figure who stood toe-to-toe with the Russians and revealed their vulnerabilities and exploded the myth of their military prowess. There is a George Washington-esque nature to his leadership.

 2. Zelenskyy marshalled world support and convinced Nato that this fight of his was their fight also and that if Russia was not stopped now, they would come for Europe soon enough. <<< This continues to be true.

 3. The one week encounter is now into its fourth year and Zelenskyy is not wavering.

I resent that President Trump demeaned and lied about this fierce warrior.  It is particularly galling that Trump — who avoided the draft and shirked his duty when his country required his patriotic services — would essentially take the Russian position in these negotiations and untruthfully berate this good, brave man. It is reprehenible.

Bottom line it, Big Red Car

Shame on President Trump for bullying this warrior president and patriot. Shame on President Trump for abandoning Ukraine and supporting Putin and Russia.

I am a 3X Trump voter and I support his efforts in the first month of Trump 2.0, but I cannot respect his bullying and lying in this matter. It is unforgiveable.

I cannot imagine that Donald J Trump does not appreciate how small and mean his utterances and social media posts make him and our great country appear.

Ukraine’s resistance against the evil Russian Federation is one of the most noble undertakings in the pursuit of freedom in the history of the world. Bravo and well played. Ukraine deserves better than what we are doing now.

But, hey, what the Hell do I know anyway? I’m just a Big Red Car.
