The Musings of the Big Red Car

Night is Neutral

Big Red Car here.  Second post for today because Perfect Daughter had a 4:00 AM wakeup for a 6:00 AM JetBlue flight back to the Apple.  Big startup graphics wizard now.

When The Boss was in the Army, they used to teach at Ranger School — NIGHT IS NEUTRAL!  The enemy does not have an advantage at night if you have the wisdom to strip them bare and not concede the night to them.

They wanted all those boys reared under street lights to understand most of the world did not look for their safety under a street light.  Night was not a protector of anyone.  It was completely neutral.

The Boss served in a unit which operated exclusively at night and slept in the day time.  In time, he forgot about street lights and began to adapt completely to a dark night.  The night lost its ability to intimidate and ultimately became an advantage once you realized “night is neutral”.

To this day, watch out, The Boss may be hiding in the shadows observing you.  He likes the anonymity of the darkness.

Startups are similar.  Startups are neutral in the manner in which legacy implications are not confining the range of creativity.  You do not inherit pre-conceived notions.  You create your own values, culture and story.

Startups are neutral.

Please think about that a bit.  Do you agree?

But, hey, what the Hell do I really know anyway?  I’m just a Big Red Car and I have big bright headlights.
