Dr. Anthony Fauci will throw out the first pitch tonight when the reigning World Series champs, the Washington Nationals, take on the New York Yankees in the first game of an abbreviated 60-game season.
Baseball is back, baby! Of course, there will be NO FANS. No heat in the seats.
Dr. Fauci is the Director of the National Institute for Allergy and Infectious Diseases and has had a prominent position in the ongoing COVID19 saga.
Some say he has not been pitching straight whilst others say he is throwing straight and hard.
Tonight, we will all have an opportunity to see what kind of pitch the good doctor can throw.
Do not overlook the athletic prowess of this former school boy basketball star. He is a jock though in a small package.
He makes no bones about his love of the Washington Nationals and wore a Nats face mask to a Congressional hearing showing his love.
Wags are saying that if Dr. Fauci nails it — fastball over the plate at belt buckle level — then the COVID19 crisis will be over. Others say that if he blows it, then we will have COVID19 for another year.
One has to give the Washington Nationals marketing props for their selection of a first pitcher. The marketing boys at the Nats had this to say:
“Dr. Fauci has been a true champion for our country during the Covid-19 pandemic and throughout his distinguished career, so it is only fitting that we honor him as we kick off the 2020 season and defend our World Series Championship title.”
Hello, America, batter up!
Put some mojo on that pitch, Doc.
But, hey, what the Hell do I really know anyway? I’m just a Big Red Car.
[If the catcher of that first pitch is on his game, he will whip out a Clorox disinfecting wipe, wipe down that ball, and hand it back to Dr. Fauci. Bets?]
