The Musings of the Big Red Car

Instacart Is a Rip Off?

Now that a substantial portion of the world is using grocery delivery to delve into the food chain, I had a convo with a pal of mine who swears by Instacart.

I asked him, “Aren’t they more expensive?”

“Baloney,” he says. He also calls me a moron, but he often does that so no offense taken. We make a small bet.

So, we pick a mundane product, Hebrew National Beef Franks in the 12 oz size and compare prices.

Here is the raw data from Austin By God Texas:

Instacart — $5.68 per package

Randalls — $4.99

Amazon — $4.49

HEB — $3.83

Walmart — $3.72

Sams Club — $3.64 <<< three pack price divided by three

As you can see, there is a huge difference between the Instacart price and the Walmart or Sams Club prices. I have had great luck with Walmart delivery, so I tend to favor them for commodity type purchases.

Every single price was CHEAPER than Instacart. Every. Single. Price.

I will be expecting my $100 from my pal whose name I shall reveal if he doesn’t pay me most rickety tick.

But, hey, what the Hell do I really know anyway? I’m just a Big Red Car, but I know the price of the Hebrew National Beef Franks in the 12 ounce size.
