.
The existence of historic evil does not justify current evil.

Because one religion in the past engaged in barbarous behavior does not justify horrific behavior such as burning the Jordanian pilot alive.

They were and are both wrong, both evil.

The President has become an apologist for Islamic violence. He is either unable or unwilling to deal with the reality of it.

This is really not about religion. It is about evil.

I saw the video of the President's speech. From a historical perspective, he is correct. The Crusades did some absolutely horrific things. As one example, the slaughter during the sack of Jerusalem in 1099 was so great that the blood ran literally ankle- or knee-deep in the streets (depends on the account). Muslim, Jew, Eastern Orthodox, anyone not Crusader was raped and killed.

However, the fact that other religions perpetrated great evil at various times does *not* excuse inaction at the current time. In the face of evil, you *do* get in a high horse and, in your words, "engage". The question is not, "did this happen by my forebears in the past?", but "what am I going to do with it today?"

To quote a different film (and great literature), "All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us."
