.
The cooking of the books is obvious and transparent. The use of U-3 v. U-6 or U-7 is not a huge leap of faith and the press should at least not fall into the trap. The manipulation of the labor force participation rate is obscene but then we are that stupid.

I do think ahead of elections they cook the books. Certainly we saw that in 2012. But, at least they are transparent about how they are counting. Would be better to see scaled numbers-what's it look like if we don't use 6 mos, but use 12 mos. Ironically, as soon as they cut off unemployment benefits, workers started actively looking and finding some employment...Macroblog showed that stat a long time ago (Atlanta Fed economists)

75 sounds nice to this NYC resident! I love New Hampshire (visit once a year or so) and hope to visit Austin again soon. If I did decide to leave NYC then Austin would definitely make the short list for destinations to relocate to.

But seriously, as bad as the manipulation of labor and unemployment stats has been under BO one can only expect the truth to be even more obfuscated in order to set up for 2016.

.
Why does it feel like the economy is not as good as the unemployment numbers suggest?

Because the BLS cooks the books?

Hey, Jim, you made that choice. Not the Big Red Car.

I got a room for you. It will be 75F today -- sunscreen weather.

Got the Marlinspike, what a great read. Very well played.

Be well and be careful shoveling the snow.
