.
Here's the thing. You may leave the Institute but the Institute --- including the Honor Code --- never leaves you.

VMI was a tougher place, the road less traveled.

VMI men adhere to a life code that is tougher because they themselves adhere to higher standards.

In the end, that is efficient, honorable and, most importantly, the right thing to do.

We have earned the right to be better.

I distinctly remember being a cadet and listening to alums talk about how much they missed the honor code. At the time I didn't get it, but now I do. There is no where else that affords you the luxury of being able to trust everyone, even those you don't particularly like. Once you leave that cocoon, it is an eye opening experience. I think that the values of honor are still appreciated by individuals, and most people are pretty honest, but i wouldn't say we value them as much as a society. While most everyone is honest, I never appreciated the simplicity of life that VMI affords until long after I graduated.

Hey, Tom, thanks for commenting.

Your sense of honor is admirable. It is obvious that YOU are the font of character that you describe and that it moves with YOU like an aura.

Well done and well played!

Keep up the great work.

Honor is important in all facets of business. I spent 20+ years in a retail/wholesale business and I was able to compete against bigger companies due to the fact that my word was my bond. Suppliers and customers alike knew if I promised something I would deliver. There was never any doubt!

Now I find myself starting anew in the real estate business here in NYC and I am steadily building the same reputation. I have gained the respect and trust of a new group of associates and colleagues and will continue to do so. It's a code. Talk it and live it!
