.
I was visiting with my 97 year old father last week and the parallels with Chamberlain, Hitler and Munich are mind boggling.

Even good students of history may not know that Chamberlain was not alone in suggesting he had made a deal with Hitler that ensured "peace for our times."

In fact, the arrangement was not just England and Germany -- it included England, Germany, Italy (who actually drafted the agreement, Benito Mussolini), Czeckoslovokia and Russia (on the sidelines as they had a mutual defense treaty with the Czecks).

A year later, Europe was at war.

I hope we do better on this one.

Thanks for the analysis. I had not gone through the text, but when so many people claim that an agreement is such a big success I tend to be suspicious.

This has been the weekend of kicking the can forward. First the Eurogroup delays Greek bankruptcy so they can say they got and agreement. Then P5 + 1 does the same with Iran. Big media cheer politicians and most people don't bother to check what is really agreed, so all is good.

.
The P5 + 1 v Iran death match is over with Iran running the table and getting everything it wanted:

1. A clear path to a nuclear weapon in ten years;
2. A lifting of all economic and weapons sanctions including access to frozen funds and the ability to sell oil into the open market;
3. The lifting of the UN arms embargo;
4. A sham inspection regime which requires their own approval to initiate any contested inspection;
5. A thumb in the eye for Israel; and,
6. A sham Senate approval process.

It is a great day to be an Iranian.
