Cop Calculus — Minneapolis

So, Minneapolis is now in the throes of the aftermath of the George Floyd murder in which a Minneapolis cop, Derek Chauvin, knelt on Floyd’s neck for eight minutes and killed him.

This murder triggered violence, arson, looting, vandalism, riots, and subsumed what started out as peaceful Constitutional protests resulting in more than $500MM in property damage and calls to #DefundPolice.

Apartment project under construction for low income housing ablaze during Minneapolis riots.

Who gets hurt by this? Low income residents who now have no place to live.

Minneapolis Fails The Test

Minneapolis, you great lovely city, you broke my heart. I had such high hopes for you.

The foundation for my disappointment was a crime — a black man passed a counterfeit bill, was identified, was pursued, was apprehended — all good to here.

Then, it really came off the rails when four of your cops either put their knee on the guy’s neck or assisted the neck-kneeler or watched while it was done. Those were crimes also.

The Wackiness of Politics in Minneapolis

You may have noticed that your Big Red Car has been steering clear of politics recently. No reason, but I have.

Today, I saw something so wacky that I started laughing. Laughter led to bemusement and who do I share my bemusement with? That would be you, dear reader.

So, the Trump campaign — Trump2020 — announces it is holding a campaign rally in Minneapolis in the same Congressional District as Congresswoman Ilhan Omar.

Congresswoman Omar, the Assistant Squad Leader for The Squad, has been an ardent critic of President Trump, so somebody with a sense of humor over at Trump2020 said, “Hey, let’s go hold a Trump2020 rally in Congresswoman Omar’s District, say what?”
