Ouch, it’s even worse than you thought. I went to the same school as Chesty Puller, VMI, and roomed in the same room he did when he was a Rat.

I will try to plead “fat fingers” but I am not sure my many Marine Corps Brother Rats will take that as an acceptable excuse. Sorry Colonels Sykes and Hall. I meant no disrespect.

VMI was founded on 11 November 1839.
Austin, Texas was founded on 11 November 1839.
The US Marine Corps was founded on 10 November 1775.

Mea culpa . . .

The blog post had nothing to do with the mission or purpose of the US Marine Corps so I will have to take issue with that utterance.

As to the date of the founding of the US Marine Corps, I got it wrong. It is 10 November 1775, not 1776 as I had originally indicated. I corrected it immediately, so maybe I can be forgiven.
