Big Red Car here on a Monday in the ATX. On Earth as it is in Texas, y’all.
So, the illegal immigration battle is heating up in the US due to President Donald J Trump actually keeping some of his campaign promises.
What’s up with that? A part time politician who actually intends to keep some of his campaign promises?
In the dictionary next to the word “lies” is the phrase — Campaign Promises. Doesn’t President Trump read the dictionary?
So, the battle is heating up, right?
No, dear readers, the battle is almost over. Indeed, it is over except for the crying and bayoneting the wounded. [Vicious little metaphor for so early on a Monday, Big Red Car? We may have to sic the whiny, liberal metaphor police on you, rust bucket.]
Attitude, it starts with attitude
Candidate Trump promised a myriad of actions to get immigration, both legal and illegal, under control. The biggest of which was a change in attitude.
The change in attitude has already happened with the new President, the new Attorney General, the new Director of Homeland Security, and the additional Border Patrol forces (oh, snowflake, did you miss THAT Executive Order?). Those are specific people who will control the attitude and attitude is everything.
With that change in attitude, the government has begun to raid cities which harbor large numbers of illegal immigrants. These ICE raids were part of an existing Obama administration program, but they are being pursued with renewed vigor and forces.
Contrary to the media, it will not be that hard to round up and deport the CRIMINAL element. Not all the illegals, just the CRIMINALS in the first phase. Can we just get rid of the felons and the violent bad actors? Surely, Chuck Schumer and Nasty Pelosi will be OK with that? Just for a start, y’all.
[Bit of closet outing — the Big Red Car would actually be in support of a blanket amnesty AFTER the border is secure, the criminals are all deported, and legal immigrants are sorted out. I don’t like the idea of letting illegal immigrants push to the front of the line. I would also require that immigrants learn to speak English and pass a basic civics course with knowledge to be tested and they have to be able to sing the National Anthem. If they commit even a misdemeanor — deport them. But, still, the BRC would be talked into an amnesty with conditions, y’all. Do not tell ANYONE what the BRC just said.]
Sanctuary cities
Simultaneously with the new attitude, the Feds and certain states (Texas, as an example) have begun to pass laws to punish Sanctuary Cities who will not cooperate with ICE in the identification and detention of illegal aliens who have committed crimes in the United States. This is happening right now.
Let’s be clear, we are asking folks who swore to protect and defend the Constitution of the US and to enforce the law, to, well ………………………………. enforce the law. Not the high hurdles.
In Texas, the Governor, Greg Abbott, has already de-funded a huge amount of money to Travis County (where the Big Red Car lives) because the Travis Country Sheriff decided she didn’t want to cooperate with the identification, detention, and deportation of criminals in her jail. Said it was a voluntary thing and that she didn’t think it would work for her. It cost the county about two million dollars. You should listen to the liberals squealing. They thought it was a head fake.
The Texas legislature, meets every two years for 90 days, has passed a law through the Senate and now being debated in the House to be able to remove the officials in jurisdictions who put the label “sanctuary” on themselves. Tough love. Texas love.
I could go on and on. But, I won’t.
A couple of last nuggets on immigration
The administration, the Trump administration, controls who gets visas to enter our country including non-immigrant (tourist visas, student visas) and immigrant visas (work related like H1-B visas). This is typically done through the local Embassy or consulate or the State Department in Foggy Bottom. It is done by employees of the State Department, the same State Department now being run by Secretary Rex Tillerson, no longer Secretary John Kerry. New Sheriff in town, y’all.
The tempestuous Executive Order — creating a temporary, 90-day timeout on granting visas from seven Middle East countries whose government has either evaporated or is at war or is the greatest exporter of terrorism in the world — is held hostage by legal proceedings. Folks need to recognize they are wrestling about a TRO (temporary restraining order), not the order itself.
The administration can contest it, revise it, withdraw it and issue a more tightly worded Executive Order. Here’s the BIG NEWS — it is not really the decisive fight. It has already become a side show.
What everyone misses is that the same administration has its finger on the Go-No Go button on all future visas. The denial rate on applications coming from the Middle East (under the Obama administration) was already about 60%. Again, these are decisions made at the Embassy, consulate, or Foggy Bottom level.
What happens from here on out? I predict the Trump administration drives the denial rate to 98.873%. Just a guess. There will be no need to temporarily halt immigration from the Middle East, there will be NO VISAS.
The border is already working its way toward enhanced security as the Border Patrol is being beefed up, but, more importantly, they have been told to enforce the law. Change in attitude, y’all.
The wall will get built.
The country will get a modern, digital method of tracking people in the US who have overstayed their visas. I say, “Stick a chip in them.” But, that, of course, is silly. Is it?
The immigration battle is almost over from a strategic perspective. Lots of folks to be rounded up and deported, more than a bit of self-deportation, wall to be built, sanctuary cities to be spanked, but the battle has been won. President Trump won it when he won the election and it turned out he intended to follow through on his campaign promises.
Who knew?
But, hey, what the Hell do I really know anyway? I’m just a 51-year old Big Red Car. Be good to my favorite person, that would be you, champ.
