Blundering Into War — Syria, the United States, Russia

yup, "Blundering" -- we've been there, done that, too often already. It's been very costly, and very much we don't want to do that again.

What to do about Syria, ISIS, Iraq, Iran, Libya, etc.?

Well, likely and apparently mostly we don't know enough to be at all sure what to do and avoid mistakes, e.g., blundering.

So, the first thing we need to do is to do really well using what has by far the best ROI in US national security -- good intelligence. We can get that via satellites, drones, signals, data, humans on the ground, etc. Good -- definitely we should do that.

For Syria, ISIS, ..., there is, right, a lot of ugly brutality, much of it comparable with the worst of history. Then we are tempted to respond to the humanitarian crises. But, that brutality has a common cause -- Islam, mostly out of date 500 to 1000+ years. Islam needs to move forward 500+ years and clean up its act.

Lesson 1: Gulf War I showed very clearly that we can defeat an Islamic military.

Lesson 2: Gulf War II showed nearly as clearly that we can't move Islam 500+ years into some decent version of civilization.

We need to keep lessons 1 and 2 very clearly in mind.

Should we take action in Syria, Iraq, etc.? Let's ask that question everyday, and then see a lot of really good intelligence while very much keeping lessons 1 and 2 clearly in mind.
