Competition — it’s what’s for breakfast these days.
Your Big Red Car sometimes feels like folks who are “in the fight” think they have to cede certain territory to their competitors without a fight. I am often reminded of a snippet of wisdom once placed before me by a Sergeant Major, “Lieutenant, when you get in a fight, remember to fight.”
That has always stuck with me which brings me to some interesting statistics from Q1-2019 related to advertising revenue growth, digital advertising revenue on the Internet.
One assumes that advertising revenue is owned by a few big companies — talking to you, Google. In case you didn’t know, Google has a new logo.
But, here are the Q1-2019 ad growth rates for a couple of companies I follow:
Snap is up by 39% year over year.
Amazon – 34%
Facebook – 26%
Twitter – 18%
I share this because our pals at Google are up 15%. Now, these are growth rates. Growth rates are not the same as gross revenue as you well know from your accounting knowledge base.
You will want to know that Google’s revenue is more than 100 times larger than Snap’s and that Facebook is half the size of Google.
Still, it shows that competition for the advertising dollar spend is alive and well.
Remember, when you are in a fight — FIGHT.
I love the smell of competition in the morning. Ahhh! It smells like capitalism.
Capitalism is good. It has delivered the greatest economy in the world and uplifted more people from poverty than any other -ism.
