Voter Turnout in Texas

Big Red Car here in the post election aftermath taking a look at some numbers. One of the most interesting numbers is voter turnout in Texas in regard to l’affaire Beto (Robert Francis O’Rourke of El Paso, Dem candidate for Senate v Teddy Cruz, Rep candidate).

This is the race that the entire country was throwing money at the Dem candidate to the tune of $72MM. Ted Cruz raised $40MM, but the story today is what happened to the turnout. What did all that money buy as it relates to turnout?

“I raised a lot of money and came in a solid second in the Texas Senate race. Maybe I should build on my success and run for President?”

The Great Debate – Texas Senate Race

Big Red Car here on a gloomy Thursday morning in the ATX. Texas politics is fun in a roller derby kind of way. The race for the Texas Senate will be a barn burner though recent polling suggests Cruz is looking at a ten point victory.

For the Senate we have a faux Hispanic running against a real Hispanic who doesn’t seem Hispanic.

[At this point, please allow me to make a preemptive apology for all the offenses I have committed against good order and decency thus far and for the rest of the blog post. I am sorry.]

U.S. Rep. Beto O'Rourke, D-El Paso (left), and U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas.

Robert Francis O’Rourke, the Dem challenger, faces off with Teddy Cruz, the incumbent in three debates.

Dueling — the Revival of an Iconic American Method of Dispute Resolution

Big Red Car here in the ATX on a glorious day which should crack 80F, ahhh, on Earth as it is in Texas, y’all.

So, the Big Red Car is freestyling today with a serious thought — it’s time to revive dueling as a means of alternative dispute resolution.

There it is. Look at it. Touch it. Smell it. Taste it. Do it.

The Big Red Car is tired of everyone yelling at each other.

Ted Cruz objects to Donald Trump talking smack about his Heidi?

Ted hitches up his pants (little pants cause he’s kind of short) and challenges big, tall Donald Trump to a duel. There it is! Continue reading

Hating the Waiting

Big Red Car here in the gently moist wonder that is the ATX. On Earth as it is in Texas.

This is an odd year because of the impending Presidential election made all the weirder by the odd bunch of candidates that have been assembled and weeded through. One must say that the Republicans get high marks for the size of their field and the high energy (except, apparently, for Jeb Bush) of its robust, rodeo like selection process. “Rodeo like” meaning that not too many have been able to sit that bull and get the eight second whistle.

The future of the US, in this interesting time, is in the hands of a 94-year old white socialist, a 70-year old white liar, a 69-year old white bombastic businessman, and another woefully unprepared low mileage white Senator whose real name is Rafael. He looks like a Rafael, doesn’t he?

I think of them as Dopey, Sleazy, Braggy, and Creepy.

Of course, I am poorly educated, ill-informed, and a sinner. That’s me. Continue reading

Ted Cruz, Outsider? Member GOPe?

Big Red Car here while The Boss is skiing. Apparently, it’s even snowing in Steamboat.

So while I have had some time on my hands, I’ve been studying this notion of folks being “outsiders” as that appears to be a desirable trait.

Right alongside it is the notion that a person may or may not be a member of the GOPe — the Republican establishment.

Then, there’s the issue of whether someone is a conservative and what is necessary to earn that title.

I have to tell you it makes a Big Red Car tired to just try to figure it out — outsider, GOPe, conservative?

NASCAR = Politics?

Big Red Car here in the aftermath of the Republican debate in Greenville, SC last night with some observations.

First, it was a Saturday night, the prelude to Valentine’s Day and one could feel the love in the air. I am betting that Donald Trump and his Melania are probably enjoying a nice brunch down in Charleston with Jeb and his bride right now. Think so?

The country needs to understand something and that something is called NASCAR and how it relates to politics.

CNBC — Clowns, Nothing But Clowns

Big Red Car here on a nice sunny ATX day with a bit of a chill in the air. 52F but headed to 80F this afternoon. Ahh, on Earth as it is in the ATX.

So, did you watch the beclowning of the Republican debate last night?

It is difficult to imagine that anyone could have done a more ham handed, amateurish, biased, transparent mash up of what CNBC did last night. Continue reading
