Entrepreneurial anxiety — when panic attacks

Big Red Car here.  Low clouds, warm wind out of the south — going to be a nice hot Texas day before it’s all over.

The Texas heat can be a chore but it’s only June, so it is only going to get hotter.  Haven’t hit 100F for a stretch yet, so we still have a bit of time to go.  Bring it, sayeth the Big Red Car.

Finding your authentic leadership style

Big Red Car here.  Hey, it’s raining early this morning in the ATX.  Well, we like a bit of rain.  Seems like a nice gentle rain falling on our homes and fields and Big Red Cars because I am parked on the freakin’ street, Boss.

OK, OK, I know that I am supposed to keep my place in all things and I will not start trouble but a bit of garage time would be greatly appreciated.

The Design of Compensation Packages for C Level Execs and Senior Management

Big Red Car here.  The Boss and I had a nice long ride today.  It was a bit cloudy but warm.  I love a good ride through a warm afternoon.

He had coffee with a pal of his and they got to talking about the design of compensation packages for “C” level executives and senior management. Continue reading

National Spaghetti and Meatballs Day, an allegorical story about negotiations

Big Red Car here.  Wet, cold day here in the ATX — not convertible weather.  Frankly, I am getting a bit vexed.  I am a bit uncomfortable and want to get out and run a bit.

Which brings me to the issue of comfort food and — will wonders never cease — National Spaghetti and Meatballs Day.

Wishing you a Gray Haired Eminence for the New Year

Big Red Car here.  Happy New Year!

So The Boss is having a nice bourbon and gingerale with a pal of his and they get to talking about Boards of Directors.  In particular, about Boards of startups or small private companies or small public companies.  So, if you are on the Board of Exxon Mobil this is not for you but you can read it anyway and you will see the similarities.

The Boss has served on lots of Boards and is constantly being asked to serve on more.  He likes serving on Boards as does his pal.

Big Red Car here.

The other day we spoke about “developing talent” and mentioned that mentoring was a critical element in the development of talent.

Here is a real world story of mentoring.  Read it at your own risk.

Question No. 1 (The Leadership Series)

Big Red Car here.

So we received a question from Austin entrepreneur and business owner — Joni G.  Old time friend of The Boss.  Very successful entrepreneur and Mom.  Creator of jobs, runner of businesses and all around great American.

A good question, indeed.

Developing Talent in the Small Business (The Leadership Series)

Big Red Car here.

The Boss is still in Steamboat Springs skiing and I am still in the driveway waiting for the old boy to get home.  I am wasting a lot talent just sitting here.

Which brings me to the subject of developing talent.

A Gig, a Product, a Job, a Career, a Profession (The Leadership Series)

Big Red Car here.

The Boss is still up skiing in Steamboat.  Snow is still pouring down and I am starting to feel just a bit sorry for myself.  I have been cooped up all week since Sunday and am getting a bit anxious.

I want to get out and run.  My job, my work, is to lower the top and run like Hell.  Through the neighborhood — never, ever violating the speed limit mind you — and when The Boss is feeling a bit wild through the Hill Country and out to the lake and back again.  I have a great job.  I am in the pleasure business.  Come ride with me.
