Copycats — The Kiss

Ahhh, a wonderful, crisp Texas day for a pre-Saint Patricks Day celebration in the ATX. Happy Saint Patricks Day!

So, I am chatting with a high tech personage and they decry the tsunami of copycat apps and startups. Not something I have noticed myself, but he made a strong and logical case for it. He convinced me.

He went on to say that it was a fairly recent occurrence which made me ponder that notion.

After a bit of pondering, I came to the conclusion it has been around forever. I cite as my example the history of sculpture.

“What, Big Red Car, sculpture? WTF do you know about sculpture?”

Yes, I can understand your natural skepticism as I am not really much of a sculptor myself, but I have a set of eyes, don’t I?

Manliness — Being a Man in the Modern Age

The Big Red Car shares insights on manliness in the age of Harvey Weinstein. Be a man. Man up.

Big Red Car here on a perfect, sunny Texas day. On Earth as it is in Texas.

The recent Harvey Weinstein imbroglio has the Big Red Car wondering if the Nation is still producing MEN. Not, “men.” MEN.

Guys like our fathers, who won World War II by kicking the crap out of the Nazis and the Japs and made the world safe. Guys like George (NMI) Washington, who founded the country, beat the Brits (most proficient army and navy of their times), and generally showed the world how the cow was going to eat the cabbage at this democracy stuff.

Maybe we’ve just forgotten what it means to be a man and need some remedial instruction.

So, here goes.

CEO Coaching — Chemistry

Big Red Car here.  Bit cool but bright and sunny.  The Boss is out power washing the driveway.  The Boss loves power washing.  [he is really a simpleton who readily embraces simple solutions.  But, hey, who doesn’t love a clean driveway and walks and patio?]

So I was eavesdropping on a couple of conversations between The Boss and some of his brilliant CEO clients.  They were talking about chemistry.  Huh?

A Date Which Will Live in Infamy — the Attack on Pearl Harbor Revisited

Big Red Car here in a somber mood.  This post was first made last year on Pearl Harbor Day and I cannot improve upon it.  So here it is again.

This is how World War II started for the Americans.  The English and French had been fighting the Germans for some time now.

The Power of Video — Get Some

Big Red Car here.  Well, Old Sport, is it going to be 82F and sunny today here in the ATX.  On Earth as it is in Texas.

So The Boss is working with several CEOs and they have been discussing the use of video in their businesses.  An interesting discussion indeed.  Let’s listen in, ya’ll.

Troy H Middleton, Citizen Soldier

Big Red Car here.  Well, you know what I’m going to say — right?  On Earth as it is in Austin, Texas, ya’ll, cause it’s just about perfect here in the ATX.

So The Boss is finishing up reading about his tenth book on the Battle of the Bulge in World War II.  He gets fixated on something in his reading — last time it was the masonry design of Irish castles, haha — and he just reads and studies it in depth and extracts the learnings like he was squeezing an orange to make orangeade.

You do love orangeade, right?  Bit of simple syrup, bit of peel, bit of something fizzy and fresh squeezed oranges.  Fresh, Old Sport, fresh.

Read carefully, friends, this will all circle back to entrepreneurial decision making but you’re going to have to stay on the horse for the entire journey.

Entrepreneurial Panic

Big Red Car here.  Another day in paradise where the summer extends until, say, well — it never really ends except for our 5-day winters.  On Earth as it is in Texas!

So The Boss is reading about a discussion of “entrepreneurial panic” and had a few thoughts he shared with one of his brilliant CEO clients.  I listened in and here is what they talked about.

Vision Clarity

Big Red Car here.  Been a bit lazy lately what with The Boss out of town and the house sitter running me ragged.  I love the house sitter because he works me like a rented mule and keeps company with some very attractive young ladies.  He has an outstanding vision of how things ought to be with a lot of pool time and a lot of cruising with his babes.

The Pursuit of Happiness and the American Dream

Big Red Car here.  Well, The Boss got skunked on the tarpon in Key Largo.  [Kind of like to see The Boss get his butt knocked in the dirt from time to time.  Good for him to learn a bit of humility, haha.  Watch yourself, Big Red Car.]

Final score — The Boss 0, Tarpon 7.

The B-24 Liberator When America Was Great

Big Red Car here.  The Boss was up early this morning and out for a swim.  He likes to swim very early in the morning.  I think the Old Boy is skinny dipping but who really knows?

Something I’ve been wanting to share with you is the story of the American B-24 Liberator one of  the big bombers produced by the United States in response to the looming war.  Second World War, ya’ll.

The Character Traits and Skills of the Successful CEO — Discipline

Big Red Car here.  I guess you’re getting tired of hearing about the warm, sunny weather here in the ATX.  It is July, ya’ll, and it is typical for these times.  Today will be another beautiful day in paradise.  On Earth as it is in Texas!

So The Boss is talking to one of his CEOs and the CEO says:  “Hey, I’ve got a situation which calls for a bit of discipline.  Any advice?”

The Character Traits and Skills of the Successful CEO — Organization

Big Red Car here.  Another great day in the ATX and why not?  So we’ve been chatting about what makes a successful CEO, those critical character traits and skills that seem to be possessed by those rare beasties.  Things that others can emulate and copy on their way to success.  [Hey, “monkey see” “monkey do” is a legitimate personal growth strategy, haha, Big Red Car.]

One of those elements of success at the CEO level is the ability to organize things in an orderly manner and to harness the clarity of that organization to provide insights as to how to proceed — how to take the next step.  In many ways, organization is the prelude to preparation.  Preparation is prelude to action.

Organize, prepare, act — hmmm, sounds similar to crawl, walk, run.  They are related, Old Sport.  Oh, yes, they are.

Company Culture — in Pursuit of Excellence or Workplace Health?

Big Red Car here.  Going to be a bang up day in the ATX.  Lovely bright sunshine everywhere, bit of a breeze and a nice balmy warm 96F.  Great convertible weather, no?  Take that hint, Boss, and let’s get some miles on the old Big Red Car today.

So, we are musing about the subject of Company Culture again, ya’ll.

Warren Buffett, Road Trips and Dairy Queen

Big Red Car here.  Funny day yesterday — rain, sun, humid.  Today has to be better.  It’s supposed to be hot and sunny here in the ATX.

So, the house sitter is gone and The Boss is back from his East coast road trip.

Here comes the cavalry! The Promise

Big Red Car here.  Rainy and gloomy and an altogether typical late May day.  The ATX gets a lot of its rain during the end of May and then we settle in for the long, hot, dry journey through June to August and finally to September and the start of Longhorn football.  Go Horns!

On the eave of Memorial Day, when America celebrates the sacrifice of its war dead who have given the last measure of devotion so that we may live in liberty with freedom, we think about those who have served in the military and who fought America’s wars.

EstateCreate — London

Big Red Car here.  Well, The Boss is working with several CEOs of startup companies and some small/medium businesses.  He enjoys doing it.

Every once in a while it is worthwhile to do a bit of bragging.  The Boss is very impressed with how the CEO of EstateCreate in London is working his deal and growing his business.
