Syria — Messaging and Collateral Damage

Big Red Car here pondering the fallout from America’s fifty-nine Tomahawk cruise missile strike against the Syrian airbase from which Bashar al Assad launched the airborne Sarin gas attack against his people earlier this week. President Trump took it out without telegraphing the punch and without talking it to death. Ahh, that’s refreshing, no? Syria!

Last night at 8:30 EDT, the Trump administration gave the world an insight into how this President will conduct the affairs of America’s foreign policy.

Trump speech

This guy is now in charge. He is a guy who favors action over words. New foreign policy. New military awareness. New outcomes?

Today, the world will be sorting out the message delivered. The Big Red Car will help y’all with that.

2016 Predictions

Big Red Car here on an exquisite ATX bluebird day. OK, it’s only getting to 60F today but, Hell, it’s winter, right?

Haha, ATX — on Earth as it is in Texas, y’all!

So, The Big Red Car is making some predictions for 2016. Here they are. 2016 predictions!

First, the rules — no half assed, politically correct, risk adverse predictions. Big, hairy, brass balled predictions. Only. Continue reading

Let’s Cut the Crap About — Solving Problems in the Middle East

Big Red Car here. Nice day in the ATX. Lousy day in the Middle East. How does it become a little better?

There is a sense at the highest levels of our government that the Middle East is like a self sealing tire — the hole is going to fix itself if we just keep rolling along.

That is nuts. Sorry. Today is a day for straight talk. Continue reading

Let’s Cut the Crap About — the Military Capabilities of ISIS

Big Red Car here on a lovely Sunday morning in the ATX where it is going to be 75F and sunny later this afternoon. On Earth as it is in Texas, y’all.

Time for YOU to consider moving to Texas. I’ll take care of all the immigration admin if you want me to.

So The Boss is talking to a couple of his military buddies. Guys who served, as did The Boss, in elite military units and know which end of a rifle the bayonet goes on.

They have a very low opinion of the military prowess of ISIS.

ISIS — What is the Speed of Darkness?

Big Red Car here in the glorious ATX while The Boss is in NYC living large and upon the fat of the land.

Will be a lovely 75F and sunny. Hope you freeze in the Apple, Boss. Haha, just kidding.

Me and the housesitter will be cruising this evening. Finally, a warm and sunny day for the housesitter and girlfriend.

So, The Boss has been thinking about those bloody bastards, ISIS. Continue reading

Social Media and the Internet Go To War

Big Red Car here. Another beauty in the ATX. Ahhh, thank you, God!

So, The Boss was chatting with one of his trade school buddies. “Trade school” is what you call VMI, West Point, Air Force Academy, Annapolis, Citadel and other military schools. It is an inside joke amongst trade school grads.

They get on the subject of asymmetrical warfare — fancy word for terrorism and the whole Middle East mess. Lump in Al Qaeda, ISIL, Boko Horam and the flavor of the day shitheads.

Social media and the role of the Internet bubbles to the surface. Continue reading

Moderate Syrian Rebels = The Easter Bunny?

Big Red Car here. Well, it’s football Saturday here in the ATX. Lot of good games to be watched and studied. About 70F right now but going to be high 80’s and sunny all day. Ahh, the ATX!

So The Boss has some experience training soldiers. He’s a VMI graduate and was a professional soldier who actually ran combat arms units in the US and overseas. He knows something about training and building unit cohesion. He actually did it and knows how difficult it truly can be. Continue reading

Nuclear Iran

Big Red Car here. Starting to cloud up a bit here in the ATX, what’s up with that? Nice cool temperature.

So the situation in the Middle East is heating up. Every time one hot spot flares up some other hot spot is ignored. Think about it.

The Chinese got a “get out of jail free” card when the war on terrorism heated up. We ignored them for a decade and now they’re just creeping back onto the radar. Continue reading

The Naivete of Our President

Big Red Car here.  The Boss is back in the ATX after having been in Highlands, NC for a wedding.  What a great time.  He brought he cooler weather of the mountains with him.

The Boss got to talking about the recent conversation between the new Iranian President and our President.

Maybe We Should Check With Susan Rice?

Big Red Car here.  Sometimes things are so silly you just have to pinch yourself to make sure that what you think you have heard is exactly what you heard.

Today, the White House schedule former Ambassador to the United Nations Susan Rice — now the President’s National Security Adviser — to brief Congress on what is happening in Syria.  Huh?

Some Straight Talk About Chemical Weapons

Big Red Car here.  The Big Red Car is against the use of chemical weapons in any and all forms.  There, I said it.  It is repugnant.

But the entire subject got me thinking about it all and I did a bit of research — don’t tell The Boss because I was supposed to be working on my tan, haha — and I learned some interesting things.  The Big Red Car has always been a damn good sharer, so here goes, Old Sport.

Speeches by Guys in Hermes Ties

Big Red Car here.  So The Boss is still in the Carolinas helping the Cub move to his new digs in Charlotte.  The Queen City is a great city and is one of those great American cities that are emerging as regional centers of growth, culture and commerce.  The Boss is very high on Charlotte.

Putting the Lame in Lame Duck

Big Red Car here.  I’m sure that you’re tired of hearing the Big Red Car tell you how great things are here in the ATX. Nice warm sunny weather day after day in July.  Ahhh, on Earth as it is in Texas!

So The Boss is paying close attention the President’s new “economic offensive”.  It is easy to see why many folks find it to be offensive.  It is old wine in not very new bottles.
