March Madness – Oh Happy Day!

Big Red Car here.  Who cares about the freakin’ weather in Austin, Texas?  It’s March Madness, we care about the strength of our cable signal almost more than life itself.

The Boss got the Grande Communications 1 gig service recently.  The cable signal is strong.  It is fast.  Life is good.

Ladies, we spoke of the protocols of March Madness here — MARCH MADNESS For Women Only.  Go read it.  Make your man happy.  Please.  This will pay huge dividends in the future. Continue reading

Lines, Red Lines, Deadlines

Big Red Car here.  Going to be another great day in paradise.  Paradise being Austin by God Texas, ya’ll.  Going to be about 75F here today.

So, unless you’ve been in outer space for a couple of weeks, you’re probably aware that Secretary of State John F Kerry has given Russian President Vladimir Putin and his Russians until Monday to withdraw from Crimea and to stop threatening Ukraine with a Russian invasion.  Whew! Continue reading

Customer Service Can Be A Business Driver

Big Red Car here.  Nice bright sunny day here in the ATX but windy, ya’ll.  SXSW is in town, so the town is overrun with 250,000 beautiful people, nerds, geeks and hipsters.

So, The Boss got the Grande Communications ONE GIG Internet service connected yesterday.  Google Fiber is still talking smack but Grande is rolling that baby out big time. Continue reading

Time for a little crepe murder?

Big Red Car here.  SXSW is all abloom.  It is a wonderful time here in the ATX.  It’s about 57F headed to 75F today.  We keep the best weather for SXSW and the nerds and hipsters.  All 250K of them.  Welcome, ya’ll.

Spring, yes it’s already spring in Texas, is a special time when we glory in our weather and talk smack to those up north still dealing with snow. Continue reading

The Journey to Today in the Ukraine

Big Red Car here.  Well, I got The Boss to return to the ATX.  The old boy had enough of Sun Valley and Steamboat Springs and spring skiing.  Back to the ATX in time for SXSW and 300 people in line for cabs at the airport.  Never saw so many nerds in my life.

The mess in the Ukraine is not over and the potential for the Ukrainian military to brush up against the Russians continues to heighten with each passing day. Continue reading

The Russian Bear is a Punk

Big Red Car here.  Nothing to do today so I did a bit of research on the Russian military.  Back in the day of the USSR, The Boss had an assignment to take a look at some forward deployed Russian Army units in Germany.  They had this crazy tour of East Berlin limited to officers who were paratroopers or Rangers and who were taller than 6’3″.  They visited the areas of East Berlin that the Russians had not rehabilitated.

They also met with similar aged Russian officers.  It was a staring contest.  The Boss was not impressed with the Russian company grade officers though they could really drink vodka.

So, how does the Russian Army stack up as a military force? Continue reading

Planning Your Path To The Pay Window, Are You?

Big Red Car here.  The Boss is still in the Boat skiing.  Nothing like Spring skiing — 40F at the base and colder up top but warm and pleasant for the schussing.  And, we all love a bit of schussing.

So The Boss runs into one of his pals — uber successful guy — who has retired to Steamboat Springs and they get to talking about the lovely cocktail called “success”.  The recipe for success.

The Ukraine a Test of American Capabilities and Credibility

Big Red Car here.  The Boss is in Steamboat having toured Idaho, Utah, Wyoming and now Colorado.  Big range of weather enroute and some striking country [some boring as sin country also — hey, sin isn’t boring is it?]

So you have undoubtedly been following the brouhaha in the Ukraine, no? Continue reading

Ketchum If You Can — Sun Valley, Idaho

Big Red Car here.  Bit foggy here in the ATX, unusual but it’s going to be in the low 80’s later today.  The Boss is still in Idaho but he’s driving down through Windy Wyoming to Steamboat Springs.  Once he gets up there, it can be a fight to get him to come home.  This remote working is empowering.

It’s a bit of light snow in Ketchum this morning. Continue reading
