Convertible Debt

Big Red Car here.  Well, it’s cold and raw here in the ATX.  Not convertible weather which gets me thinking about a different type of convertible — convertible debt.

The Boss received several questions as to when and how convertible debt would be used by a startup.  This explanation will give you the basics.

CEO Coaching — Sounding Board

Big Red Car here.  Brrr, cold here in the ATX this morning early at 43F.  However, Old Sport, it will be 65F before the day is over.

So we’re still on the subject of what constitutes good CEO coaching.  A good CEO coach provides a CEO with a sounding board upon which to bounce off ideas and to do a bit of brainstorming.

CEO Coaching — Chemistry

Big Red Car here.  Bit cool but bright and sunny.  The Boss is out power washing the driveway.  The Boss loves power washing.  [he is really a simpleton who readily embraces simple solutions.  But, hey, who doesn’t love a clean driveway and walks and patio?]

So I was eavesdropping on a couple of conversations between The Boss and some of his brilliant CEO clients.  They were talking about chemistry.  Huh?

CEO Coaching — Experience

Big Red Car here.  Well we had a great Christmas in the ATX.  Wow, the Investment Banker and the Perfect Daughter are here and the parental units had been skiing in the ‘Boat and just made it back in time to get the tree decorated.  Much fun and much love.  Ahh, On Earth As It Is In Texas!

So The Boss has been thinking a bit about his CEO advisory and coaching business.  At year end he has cataloged a number of conversations and I will be sharing them with you for a few weeks.  A kind of lessons learned primer on how a CEO can effectively use coaching to her best advantage.

Keeping Faith With The American Soldier

Big Red Car here.  So The Boss is back for Christmas.  Not like him to leave Steamboat when the snow’s still good but the babies — the Investment Banker and the Perfect Daughter — are coming home so he had to be there to greet them.  Still, the snow was damn good.

So The Boss is exercised about the recent budget deal and the provision to reduce the military pensions contained therein.  [The Boss is a Veteran and his Old Man is a retired Sergeant Major, so he comes by his interest honestly.]

Technology and Predatory Pricing, the Uber Story

Big Red Car here.  Ahhh, 70F and sunny in the ATX.  You know that’s pretty damn sweet, ya’ll.  On Earth as it is in Texas, indeed.

The Boss is still skiing in Steamboat and he’s reporting 35F and sunny — sunburn, Boss.  Get the SPF working for you.  Sunscreen, the most dependable service available and the best advice ever.

When You Want It Enough

Big Red Car here.  The Boss is in the Boat skiing, so I got the housesitter again.  Me and the housesitter, we get along quite well because that young man knows how to run wild and free just like a Big Red Car loves to do.  [Do NOT tell The Boss but we going to be touring the Christmas lights with a bit of mulled wine and some lovelies.  Anyway, that’s the plan.]

So before The Boss left for the Boat, I overheard him talking to a CEO who was struggling with motivation.  Every CEO does eventually.  CEOing is a draining business.

Old Economy to New Economy Transformation Revisited

Big Red Car here.  Hey, it’s raining in the ATX and I don’t like that.  It’s a bit cold in addition.  The Boss had a day of power washing laid on but it looks a bit spotty.  I like The Boss to get his power washing on — it makes the simpleton so damn happy.  [Haha, watch it Big Red Car.]

So The Boss has always been a huge fan of the transformation of old economy companies to new economy companies.  A great way to create value by essentially jerking the old economy company into the real, current world.

Weaving Small Victories Into Big Wins

The Big Red Car here and here is Austin, By God, Texas.  Going to be a lovely day though it is only in the 30’s just now but winter — well, this little spate of it that is — will be over next week when it returns to the 70’s.

Ahhhh, on Earth as it is in Texas.

Musings About Pre-money Valuation

Big Red Car here.  Hope you are well.  The sun is out and shining here in the ATX.  Sunny and only in the mid-40s today.  But, ahh, ain’t it grand.

So The Boss is talking to a few of his brilliant CEOs about a favorite topic — the derivation of pre-money value.  Pre-money valuation indeed!

A Date Which Will Live in Infamy — the Attack on Pearl Harbor Revisited

Big Red Car here in a somber mood.  This post was first made last year on Pearl Harbor Day and I cannot improve upon it.  So here it is again.

This is how World War II started for the Americans.  The English and French had been fighting the Germans for some time now.
